Salford City Council emphasise need for hand washing facilities
Vital hand hygiene compliance information as well as other key aspects of registering as a mobile trader, can be found in “A Guide for mobile street traders”, which is available to download from the Salford City Council website.
The website advises that “Before a consent to trade in the city of Salford will be issued, every person operating a mobile food vehicle or stall will be required to present their vehicle for a food hygiene and health and safety inspection.”
The Council’s downloadable documentation contains much helpful – even essential – information, which is relevant for anyone starting a street food outlet in the area. A valid consent is compulsory for anyone wishing to trade within the City of Salford.
Food safety focus
Much of the information is particularly relevant to hand hygiene requirements and compliance. Suitable washing facilities must be present for all “high risk” foods are sold: these include burgers, ice cream and hot dogs.
“Where open food is sold, a purpose-made wash hand basin must be installed for personal use only, complete with an adequate supply of hot and cold water (or hot water at a suitably controlled temperature). Soap or detergent and a means of drying hands (i.e. paper towels) must be provided.”
