Important role to play in preventing infection spread
A call to action for dental professionals has been issued, according to a recent report on the Dentistry.co.uk website.
The article by Seb Evans states that The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) (FGDP(UK) and the Association of Clinical Oral Microbiologists (ACOM) are calling for dental professionals to visibly support effective hand hygiene.
They are being urged to post the message ‘hand hygiene supports safe dental care’ on all their social media sites. Dental professionals are being asked to join the Thunderclap at 8pm on Thursday 5th May – and to share links with colleagues and associates.
Reducing HCAIs
The article advises that
“The call has come about after it was found that more than 4 million patients are affected by healthcare-acquired infections every year in Europe, costing around €7 billion (£5.5 billion) in additional healthcare and direct financial losses.”
“‘Dental patients are in your hands, so always check what’s on your hands,’ Dr Mick Horton, FGDP(UK) dean, and Dr Melanie Wilson, chair of ACOM, said.”
“The World Health Organisation (WHO) says dentists have an important part to play in preventing the spread of infections.”
