Washing needs to be done properly to be effective
The key word is “proper” hand washing, according to a recent report on the St. Louis American website…
Most people are aware that germs spread in the air but, says the article, hand contact is the most common enabler of germ spread. Bacterial and viral contamination is most effectively prevented by good personal hygiene which includes the all-important “proper handwashing”.
How to wash you hands
“Use clean, running water and soap to wash your hands.”
Hands should be lathered by rubbing them together with soap says the report.
“The friction from scrubbing will help to remove dirt, grease, and microbes from the skin. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails, thumbs and any deep crevasses, dry-cracked skin, and cuts and nicks.”
Appropriate hand drying is also very important and should be ideally carried out with a disposable or single use paper towel on the grounds that germs spread more easily between wet, rather than dry, hands.
